Anne –

3.   How would you describe the cultures of different regions of the United States?

4.   Did the revelation of Anne’s race surprise you? Why?

5.   What kind of broad generalizations have you drawn about those of different races? Those of different religions? On  what experiences have these generalizations been based? Do you think they are valid?

6.   How might your marriage or significant relationships be different if they were interracial?

7.   If you are part of an interracial relationship, have your experiences been similar to or different than those of Anne?

Beth –

9.   Have you ever felt unable to ask for help from those around you? Why?

10. How would you describe the feelings Beth has about being a mother?

15. What were R.J. and Rachel’s individual needs? Did these needs get met in marriage?

16. Would you have matched them up as a couple? Why or why not?

17. Have you ever put down or criticized a significant other’s vocation? What kind of reaction did it provoke?

18. Why do you think Rachel reacted the way she did to R.J.’s ‘leaving’?

22. Describe the feelings Karen has about her relationship with Kevin. What role do these feelings play in their relationship?

23. What clues pointed to Karen’s eating disorder? Why didn’t Kevin see them? Why was Anne able to recognize them?

24. What factors do you think Karen took into account when she made her decision about whether to convert to Christianity? Did you agree with her decision? Did you understand her decision?

25. Why do you think Karen has felt scorned by Christians in the past?

26. Have you ever shared Christianity with someone from a different faith? Did you take an offensive or a defensive position?

27. What does Karen want? What would give her fulfillment?
